To get to the entrance of the refuge, you will pass the village of Manzanillo, follow the sea and the unpaved road will end in front of the reception.
The parking will be supervised, payment expected, the entrance is not a fee but a donation.
If you park in the village of Manzanillo or along the football field you will not have to pay for parking and, when there are many visitors, it will be easier to leave.
You will cross a hanging bridge and after a short hike of 10 to 15 minutes you will get to Miss May Point viewpoint. To get there you don't need a guide, but if you would like to go into the forest a guide will be more than recommended.
The trails in Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge are less trodden and maintained than those in Cahuita National Park. You will have the feeling of being in the jungle. There is more elevation, depending on the season there can be mud and mosquitoes.
During the hike there are good chances of seeing frogs, sloths, monkeys, toucans or parrots, and possibly snakes.
The trails partly pass through private property so a guide will be necessary to venture there.
